If you’re keen to explore western Sicily, book a direct flight to Trapani: Trapani-Birgi Airport (TPS) is undoubtedly the best starting point for discovering this part of Sicily, and it also serves as an alternative gateway to Palermo.

Also known as Vincenzo Florio Airport, it’s located midway between the city of Trapani and Marsala, each roughly 15 km from the airport, whilst Sicily’s regional capital lies approximately 100 km away via the A29 motorway.

From Trapani airport you can reach important tourist and cultural attractions in just a short time, including Segesta, San Vito Lo Capo, Mozia, the Trapani and Paceco Salt Pans nature reserve, and the Scopello Tuna Fishery.

Getting from Trapani airport to the city centre

Trapani airport is connected to the city centre (port area) by bus operated by the regional transport company AST. The bus makes an intermediate stop in Paceco before reaching Trapani port. The journey time by bus from the airport to the centre is approximately 40 minutes.

The number of services and timetables vary considerably between winter and summer seasons: during summer there are far more frequent departures, with buses running until late evening, whilst in winter the service is more limited. It’s advisable to check the airport’s official website for updated timetables according to your travel dates. The bus stop is located outside the terminal building, to the left as you exit. Tickets can be purchased on board in cash or by card.

There are no train services to/from Trapani airport as the airport has no railway station: if you wish to travel by train to other parts of Sicily, you’ll need to first reach the station in Trapani city centre. About 2 km from the airport is Mozia-Birgi station, on the Trapani-Castelvetrano railway line, but there’s no shuttle service connecting the airport to this station.

Taxi

If you prefer the convenience of a taxi to public transport, you can rely on a fixed fare of €35, including nights and public holidays, for up to 4 passengers. The taxi rank is located at the terminal exit, opposite the main entrance doors. The journey to Trapani city centre or the port takes approximately 25–30 minutes.
